Thirty-three 8 to 11 year olds attended two days of sun and surf at the Junior Lifeguard Camp in June. Our campers learned the basics of being safe in the ocean and how to help others be safe as well.
The following week, 19 teens and preteens attended a more intense four-day Advanced Lifeguard Camp. These campers practiced water safety and water rescue skills. They could very well be future lifeguards, keeping our community safe on our beaches. This year four active lifeguards are graduates of previous Sandbridge Junior and Advanced Lifeguard Camps.
Sandbridge lifeguards take the time out of their busy schedule patrolling the beaches to instruct our youth during these camps. We thank them for their dedication. Please also thank Sandbridge Seaside Market for providing fresh donuts to our campers and to Sandbridge Island Restaurant for helping offset the cost of pizza at the graduating camp lunch. And a BIG THANK YOU also goes to Meyon Burns, Donna Russell and Judy Donahue for organizing this camp that is so beneficial to our youngsters.
A Dolphins Promise is proud to assist with this wonderful camp. The proceeds will go to cancer research and to the Sandbridge Ocean Rescue Association.
